The Different Types of Auto Transporting

21 Jun 2016

The sight of a truck that is carrying a bunch of cars on it is fairly common. Every day, trucks are loaded up with cars, new and old, and are sent off delivering them to various locations. The most common use of these services is by the auto manufacturers and car dealers. The cars are being transported to a dealer where they will be sold. These businesses are not the only ones that can make use of an auto transporting company. There are other types of transporting services that are being used on a daily basis.

It may surprise people to find out that there are many different types of vehicles involved in auto transporting. The different types of services that these businesses offer help fill the need that people have to move their vehicles from one place to another.

Closed and Open Transport

The two main types of auto transporting services are closed and open transport. They vary by type of vehicles they typically carry, the cost of the service and the number of vehicles that carry.

  • Open Transport – This is the type of transport that is the most familiar. The big trucks are carrying a rack of cars behind them. The trucks can carry several vehicles and are easy to load and unload. All of the vehicles that are being carried on these trucks are exposed to the weather during transport. This is the most economical form of auto transport.
  • Closed Transport – These carriers are similar to the open transport. They can carry multiple vehicles, although not as many as the open transport trucks, but they have walls and a roof that protect the vehicles from the elements. These transports are used to move cars and vehicles that owners do not want to get dirty or damaged during transport. The cost of this service is higher than open transport.
  • Each vehicle owner must decide which of these transport services will work best for them.

    Other transport services

The auto transporting company is capable of moving any vehicle from one place to another. In addition to cars they can also transport vehicles that are not made for driving on the highway. Recreational and sports vehicles also are being moved every day. There are also trucks that can take one or two vehicles instead of a larger load. What the transport service does and the price they charge for it will depend on what is being moved and how far it is being moved.
